The first time I stepped into The School at Marygrove, Dr. Carla’s words struck me to my core. As part of the Marygrove Learning Community—a Detroit P-20 Partnership that brings together DPSCD, Starfish Family Services, the Kresge Foundation, Marygrove Conservancy, and the University of Michigan School of Education—this school is redefining education.
From this semester onward, I’ve been visiting Marygrove Elementary twice a week, observing classrooms, assisting with teaching, and conducting research on play behavior, witnessing firsthand how learning and play intersect in shaping a child’s future.
